I'm sick!!!!! (and Spring Break!!!!!)

So, I feel horrible.......I'm either dying or I have allergies. And, since I would rather die than suffer for a season with allergies, I'm kinda hoping for the first. My eyes are itchy, my throat is scratchy, my nose is runny and stuffy (it that's possible), and my head is puffy and achy. Yea, spring break is off to a GREAT start!

Yes, my dearest readers, spring break has started. Officially it started last night at 6:00 (we had to be out of the dorms by that time). But, I (being the overachiever that I am) decided to be amazing and be done with all of my classes at 10:20 (ok, maybe my teachers had cancelled class and I had nothing to do with it, BUT nonetheless) and get to packing for break! :D

For break, I will be going to Romania, the land of Vampires, Gypsies and majesty! :D

RomaniaAccording to Wikipeida, Romania is the ninth largest territory and has the seventh largest population among European Union member sates and is home to Bucharest, the sixth largest city in the EU. It also uses the logo you see as the "official" logo to promote tourism to the country!

Well, on that note, I am going to be going so I can get some medicine for my ever achy head (UGH! It's my first time flying while sick, and it sucks!).

She's Watching Me!

Well, I have a stalker now. And this is what she looks like:

Look familiar??? Probaby because she's your "friendly neighborhood blogger Frances

This past Easter weekend, I was just minding my business, having fun. And what happens? I almost get run over by Frances. So, after running for my life (literally) I get to catch my breath and read on the steps of Old Main. Then what happens? SHE COMES DOWN THE STREET BLARING HER MUSIC ATTEMPTING TO DEAFEN ME!!! Because she couldn't kill me fully she wanted to slowly whittle away at my senses.

Usually, I only have to see Frances like once a month. This week alone, I have seen her a total of 8 times! Yea, she's stalking me. I go somewhere and soon enough, in comes Frances! I am truly afraid of her........H-E-L-P!!!!!

Well, I have to leave now before she comes and find me!

What's YOUR Monologue?

Photo_9
So, today is V-Day. Well, maybe not but it still is! Wofford College is celebrating V-Day today by bringing the Vagina Monologues to Wofford. I am SOOOOO excited for this because the Monologues are a REALLY great thing! And I am wearing pink because Wofford Students get in FREE if they wear pink or red, and since my one red shirt is dirty, I am stuck wearing pink. But, nonetheless, it is a REALLY cool thing that we are getting so many Wofford students into this!

All proceeds from V-Day (which is usually observed on the 14th of February) go to helping to end violence against women world-wide. V-Day has raised over 3 million dollars, which it has given to organizations fighting for the rights of women in Afghanistan, to stop genital mutilation in Kenya, and rape crisis centers in Bosnia, Croatia, and Chechnya, as well as hundreds of domestic programs to combat rape and abuse. Thanks to V-Day, The Vagina Monologues has been taken to 20 countries.

The Monologues were AMAZING to say the least. There was humor, blunt, raw emotion, there were heart-wrenching stories of brutality. To say the least, it was a roller-coaster of emotions. And, ALL proceeds went to a home for disadvantaged and abused girls here in Spartanburg!

Quote of the Blog: “As I traveled with the piece to city after city, country after country, hundreds of women waited after the show to talk to me about their lives. The play had somehow freed up their memories, pain, and desire. Night after night I heard the same stories -- women being raped as teenagers, in college, as little girls, as elderly women; women who had finally escaped being beaten to death by their husbands; women who were terrified to leave; women who were taken sexually, before they were even conscious of sex, by their stepfathers, brothers, cousins, uncles, mothers and fathers.... Slowly it dawned on me that nothing was more important than stopping violence toward women."--Eve Ensler, writer of the Vagina Monologues.

The Green Coalition!

Well, I'm a tree hugger.....and this picture proves it:
Pimg0713

Well, to further highlight this fact, I am part of the Wofford College Go Green! Initiative. This initiative is a coalition of organizations on campus and students in general who want to be proactive about global warming.

Though this coalition, we are working on a Green Audit of the campus to evaluate EVERYTHING on campus. We are looking into water, electrical, and gas usage, waste totals for food and regular trash, all gasoline usage and more. So, as I said, EVERYTHING! :D

We are also attempting to work with the other colleges in Spartanburg in order show Spartanburg's support of going green. Moreover, we are working with the city and the county in order to promote them going green as well. And as my public speaking professor Dr. Powers said, we are the most motivated she's seen students be in 25 years. So, as you can imagine, we are a force to be reckoned with. Ok, well maybe not; lets not get ahead of ourselves. BUT we are taking the Go Green! Initiative and running with it, where we stop with it nobody knows, maybe the White House! :D

Ok, maybe not that far, but you get the idea!

Some Insights into My Life

Well, this has been avery interesting week. I had a Chemistry test, I found out I am going to be an R.A. next year, I learned some etiquette, I learned about the connection between meat and sexual politics, I attended a leadership conference for student leaders here at Wofford, I worked on the Green Audit and activities for Earth Week, and oh yea, class! :D

I have done a whole lot of work this week, and this coming week is looking like it is going to be even more stressful, BUT luckily it is almost Spring Break! Ok, maybe not, I still have 3 week to go through BUT it is only 3! :D

082640513401_sclzzzzzzz_

First I want to impart you with some of the knowledge that I got from the "Sexual Politics of Meat" talk we had on Monday. This done by vegan feminist Carol Adams. She was crazy. ANd I think that she would be the first to admit that. Her speech was VERY interesting and I believe made some very good points. (One such being that women are constantly exploited in advertising, especially in the food industry when promoting meat.) This speech also centered on the idea that people should become vegetarians, if not vegans. The HILARIOUS thing to me is that I had decided earlier in the week that I was going to go vegetarian! :D so, that was pretty funny to me.

Yep, you read that right, your FAVORITE blogger is now a vegetarian (just like another blogger! And I have to say, after just about a week of this...its really starting to become FUN! I mean, it is weird because a TON of my friends are now trying to understand why and also are eating more meat as a way of showing me what I am missing (HAYES!). But I do like it and I feel a TON healthier! :D

Well, I have a rong>TON of reading to do for Sociology so I have to go, but I thought that I would stop by and fill y'all in a bit! :D

And NO, this wasn't simply a ploy for me to procrastinate from working....okay, maybe it was but nonetheless it was fun and it worked! :D

About College, SO TRUE!

So, I just found this, it is AMAZING!

"College is essentially a time of growth, of change. The major part of that change takes place in you. If the college you go to is any good, it will hit you like a ton of bricks. It will leave you to question every conclusion you have reached; it will leave you to deny lots of assumptions and remake them. It will refuse to answer many of your questions because you are asking the wrong things. It will shake your strong places and will blow tons of cold air into all of your warm hideouts… You will be stretched…” -Former President of Georgetown University "

Sooooooooooooo true!!!!!! And I already know that! :D

And since the blog is about a quote, it is also the Quote of the blog! :D

This is Wofford

So, I was poking around the Wofford website and I found this picture:

Old_main
So, yea. Wofford doesn't look like this right now but, once spring comes around I'm sure that it will! :D

Anyways, also guess what!

Ok, I'll tell you, I'm going to be an R.A. for next year!!!!!!! I will be an R.A. for Marsh hall! :D

As you can tell, I am VERY happy about this. I don't know which floor I will be on yet. But, when I do, you will too! :D So, if you are going to be my resident, feel free to comment once you know! :D

And if you have any questions about Res. Life, I would be GLAD to try to help you out (because now that I'm an RA, I automatically know everything about it! lmao!)
