WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Things Like Thanksgiving and Rebuilding

WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE SHOWED THOSE BEARS THAT TERRIERS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, lol! Sorry! I'm a little excited. :D We are now in the quarterfinals and they will be played AT HOME!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!

So, the next game will be at good ole Gibbs Stadium on December 1st against Richmond (its decided in like 10 minutes) and EVERYBODY reading this should come! This is going to be an AMAZING game and a BIG one as well......COME ON OUT! And you can see the Dog Pack at its best! :D

Ok, now moving on to Thanksgiving.

This Thanksgiving I was away from home. My first one ever. Yes, I know sad but it was GREAT! I was able to meet some of my relatives that I had never really known from Alabama (Great-Aunts and Uncles and 1st-3rd cousins). We had some great food (like stuffing made with cornbread) and some just good times catching up and really getting to know each other. Like finding out my Great-Grandfather was a lawyer and other various things.

After this I was able to see some of my family's graves. Yes, sad but it was also very nice because I was able to lean some things about them. (Including Great-Grandfather and Great-Grandmother, Grandmother, and Great-Uncle) It was really a nice thing to do.

After this, I went back to Mississippi with my aunt who is living there (at least for the next few weeks). And I really got to learn a little about life after loss.

Obviously everyone knows about Hurricane Katrina. But what NOT everybody knows is that the rebuilding is still going on.

Pimg0067 Pimg0059 Pimg0054 Pimg0064

As you can see, the rebuilding is still going on. And I guess it will be for a while. And it just taught me a little about life. That no matter how hard you work or how quickly you (or others) forget, rebuilding takes time. It takes some time to really heal the wounds....I know that this is really deep stuff that you probably don't want to hear about so I'm going to stop....

School......"The Woff", whatever you want to call it.....

Well, school is going well. Finals are the week of December 10th and the pressure is really building up. Though I only have 2 finals (bless my professors). I still have A LOT to do. I have a big paper due on Tuesday, I have a new book to go over for Philosophy, I have to start organizing my notes for Philosophy so I can study better, I have to watch and memorize parts of "The Motorcycle Diaries" (or "Los Diarios de Motocicleta" as they are better known). And then there are the numerous items that I need to get ready for the various clubs that I listed before (Specifically Democrats, Philosophy, and Wofford Ambassadors)
. But nonetheless, it is fine.......wanna know why?????

I'M BACK IN CALIFORNIA IN 21 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, I know that you've  been counting on your calendar (those of you back at home) but now I am "officially" acknowledging that I am going back home.

Well, this is a RIDICULOUSLY long blog right now so I am going to stop.

Yes, these guys!

They are flying to Montana to take on some giant (11-0) bears. If you are like me and will be unable to go out there and support them at the game itself, here is some information:

Ok, y'all!? We HAVE GOT to support our Terriers (I know that "technically" they aren't your terriers yet but we are a family here and the simple fact that you are interested in coming here makes it so that we consider you family.)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to be in Alabama during the game (shucks!) BUT I will DEFINITELY be there in spirit and be listening intently to Saturday, November 24

Being a Leader

Wow. I just realized today, after receiving 10 emails about various things I do around campus how easy (and wonderful) it is to be a leader. And here at Wofford, it is that much easier!

As I said in earlier blogs, I recently helped to start the College Democrats)Cdalogo and the Philosophy Clubs here on campus. So, obviously I have leadership positions there. I am the President of the College Democrats and the Vice-President of the Philosophy Club.

Aristotle_plato_sm1
So, what this means is that I get something like 2-20 emails each time I check my email regarding these clubs. And let me tell you, that is A LOT of emails since I check my email like every 2 hours during the week (if I'm not in class). Obviously a LOT of emails.

But beyond that, I am also a leader of the Dog Pack (again, as I said earlier).

And because of this, a bunch of people have asked what we are going to do now that Wofford is in the PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, I'm a bit excited! :D But seriously, it all depends upon today and whether we play a home game or away. And then it depends who is going to be in the area. I am going to be in Alabama for Thanksgiving! YAY! I have some family there who have invited me to have Thanksgiving with them. And I'm excited!
Pimg0034
And more than just that, I have a BUNCH of clubs that I am in otherwise that have called upon me (and others) to be leaders and I have (obviously) stepped up. Some of these include Yearbook, Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU), Civitan, The Wofford Collegiate Council (for March of Dimes)...the list goes on.

But, I guess what I am trying to say is that here at Wofford, there are an innumerable amount of things that you can do if you want to be a leader. There are a BUNCH of clubs and if there isn't one that fits your needs, all you have to do is start it (and that's not that hard with some help). All in all, Wofford helps to nurture leadership in people. And that is all about the college experience of growth and change!

Registration and Frustration

So, today was registration for the bulk of Wofford College freshman.
....
And it sucked...
....
Ok, maybe that's an overstatement......ok, it kinda is BUT I have an excuse.

I didn't get the english class that I wanted.

Ok, that makes me sound like a TOTAL whiner but like I really wanted it and there were only 30 spots for it.....GRRRRRRR......and I would have ROCKED that class.

But I'm ok......

Seriously....

All of my other classes though turned out to be good, I got the ones that I wanted and such so :D!

But some people weren't so lucky. They only got ONE class that they wanted.....but yea...........I should have gotten ALL my classes.....whatever

Hungry, Hungry Tomas

So, I lack food...

I have decided that Burwell doesn't give us enough food. There, I said it, this college starves us.

Yes, Burwell, the place that has all-you-care-to-eat food is starving me.

Ok, let me explain.

I have less than $35 on my account for my Terrier Bucks, this means that I soon will be unable to buy coffee every day. I also cannot buy food whenever I need it....meaning I have to rely upon Burwell food for the rest of the semester, and Interim.

Oh, and can I add that I currently max out my meals at Burwell as it is.

Yea....but don't judge me. I'm not fat or anything. I mean I eat like a normal amount of food per meal but....I just eat often.

So, I'm going to be starving by the end of the semester......So this is goodbye, obviously preemptive but just so you know......goodbye!

P.S. On a TOTALLY unrelated note, Baker, YOU ROCK! :D

Look at me Mama, I'm a Working Man!

Well, I wanted to share with y'all jobage here at Wofford College....and what sorts of things people can get involved with...not just on the idea of jobs.

First of all, I am a working man. I work at this really cool place called Wofford on Call. or WOC as we call it. WOC is basically a student telemarketing union. We call alumni and parents and try to get them to donate money to Wofford College. This is a really fun job because we work approximately 2 hours a night and we really try to tell people how important it is for people to donate money to Wofford (If you really want to know, hit me up on the comments or my email morenotv@wofford.edu.

Second, we have some really cool work study positions such as being a barista (coffee shop!), being an assistant to someone (like Samie Clowney, Director of Multicultural Affairs and Leadership Programs). Or you can work within a department (like receptionist at The President's House, or at Campus Safety). Of course you can also do a paid position like being an RA, or working on the Yearbook as well. But here at Wofford, it is really easy to get out there and become a Working Man (or Woman) like me!

Now, there are also a BILLION organizations that you can get involved with here at campus as well.
(WARNING....SHAMELESS PLUGS TO FOLLOW!)
I am involved with the Dog Pack as y'all should know by now. I paint up at most games (I've missed 2 so far). And we cheer like none others besides that. We are some of the most fun and craziest people around....come say "Hi!" at the next game!

I am involved with the March of Dimes Collegiate Council. Where we try to raise awareness for premature babies by getting involved both around Spartanburg and Greenville and around here at Wofford. This is an AMAZING group to work with based on the dedication you feel....and the fact that you are working for an important cause.

I'm involved with the Pre-Law Society because I'm thinking of going into the field of Law. This is a great club to be involved with because it is very informative and helps to get people (like me) ready to go to Law School. We just sponsored the annual Pre-Law Day here at Wofford.

I'm part of the Transitions program here which is a program for minority students where we discuss varying aspects of the hardships of having to transition to college and the things that are hard about being here at college. This is really great because its good food and good times and we can easily discuss things that can be challenging at times.

I'm part of the Women's History Month Planning Council. We are trying to do a large colloquium here on campus to celebrate Women in Leadership. Specifically we are trying to get Women who really represent a wide variety of walks of life.

I am involved with the Yearbook staff. Obviously we are attempting to create the best possible Yearbook this school has ever seen!

I've also been going to Campus Crusade for Christ. This is a Bible study organization that is really fun and spiritually freeing. I LOVE this! :D

I'm starting up a Philosophy Club and I'm bringing back the College Democrats Club. These are on their way. But, what we are aiming at is for the Philosophy Club is to be a safe easy forum to discuss Philosophy and to view interesting movies and really have a nice easy forum to discuss the differing aspects of Philosophy. the College Democrats is an organization that is attempting to raise awareness of Democratic events in and around Spartanburg and to bring people here that are Democrats to bring awareness to those that are interested in Government.

There are also a BILLION other clubs and organizations for a list of all of them, click here!

Talk to Y'all later!
