The Plus Side of No Sleep

Well, this late in the semester, I've started to notice some things.....and I decided that the best place to express these would be here!

1. Some people have yet/will never grow out of high school, and that is their problem.
2. Coffee should replace one's blood during college, it saves time.
3. The amount of Terrier Bucks (money we get with our meal plans to use around campus for food/coffee/food at games, etc) we get should be increased like 10 fold.
4. All-you-can eat is not an invitation to stuff your face...especially at Burwell.
5. Waking up 10 min before your first class is a common occurrence.
6. Freshman get shafted most of the time, get used to it!
7. Football is THE BEST thing to do Saturday....PERIOD!
8. School spirit needs to increase.....and I'm willing to help it.
9. Staying up until 4 hours before your first class means that you are getting a good amount of sleep.
10. Greeks are fun.....but its not necessary to be a part of it....but they are cool.
11. Being consistent in the place, amount of time, time you start to study are EXCELLENT things.
12. The comfier the clothes, the easier it is to fall asleep.
13. Bringing a laptop to class can be a lifesaver.
14. Procrastination may pay off (see last post) but you still should avoid it....but in moderation its ok.
15. Get friendly with your Professors! It helps!
16. Getting involved is easy....you just have to want to.
17. People are INCREDIBLY nice!
18. Growing up is hard at times....but everyone has to at some point.
19. Laundry takes a LONG time.
20. RA's are AWESOME to have as friends!
21. Squirrels can be scary.
22. Roger Milliken is Phenomenal!
23. Be smart when picking your classes!
24. College sweatshirts are your best friend when it comes to waking up late.
25. Be flexible and HAVE FUN!!!!!

Pretty much these 25 things are very helpful when it comes to college life...and life in general I think. Well, I have to go study!

P.S. This blog and the 25 things you should know were brought to you by 3 hrs or so of sleep per night! And no, results are not typical.

P.S. The Caramel Macchiato was FREEEE because someone knew I wanted one.

P.P.S. The paper I was procrastinating from earlier was moved from being due Thursday to being due NEXT Tuesday!!!!!! Procrastination pays off again! :D

Random Wal-Mart Trip that has NOTHING to do with what I'm blogging about but it still is HILARIOUS!

So, right now, I am sitting in the Acorn Cafe philosophizing. Now, don't get scared by that big word....basically I'm people watching.

And contemplating buying a Carmel Macchiato....is that how you even spell that?

Whatever, back to people.

I've been here overtly procrastinating from my work while talking to various people in my revolving door of seats and e-mailing others to ensure that things that need to happen do happen. Beyond that....I've been watching.

Watching relationships.

There is the obvious. The girl on the phone with her mother "Well, bless your heart. Thank ya so much Mama." Turning her back away from her friends to make sure that they don't judge her for her conversation. But still talking loud enough that anybody here could discern the entire conversation.

There are the fighting roommates. "Dude, you need to clean up your side of the room!" "Ah, man! Come on, its not that bad!" "Um....hello! Our mothers couldn't even walk in to the room during Parent's Weekend!" "FINE!" Nuff said.

There are the studious group of people eagerly cramming for the Monday afternoon Accounting test. "Ok, if this is finite...then....." And I'm done with that.

There are the sorority girls starting to realize that juggling a Greek life along with a regular social life and academics is really not as easy as they thought it would be. But at least they have their "Big Sisters" to help to guide them through this.

There is the group of Freshman Biology majors who are franticly studying for their second lab practical test during the next few days. All the while trying to keep the people considering dropping out amongst them. Forever more.

There are the various people who keep arguing with themselves about whether they want that next coffee. (Like me) But they always give up and take that new coffee (Just like me!).

There are the random people who come in, sit down and study. Without a word to anyone....and then just as suddenly as they came, they leave 20-30 minutes later.

Then there are the professors to get coffees from Ms. Rita. And converse with her for a while until they decide that they have to go.....

But 3 things stay amongst all this turmoil and the masses coming and going.
1. Me on my laptop in the corner blogging about them all.
2. Ms. Rita behind the counter ready and willing to talk with ANYONE. Happy just to talk. Happy to be there.
3. Abe Lincoln in the corner....he has to be here, he's a statue but He keeps looking at me....sitting there on his lonely bench awaiting the onset of more people.....Willing to wait there forever.

Well, I have to go, I have a paper to write (procrastinate from and end up writing in like 3 hours but whatever). And I have 2 meetings to go to tonight. And well, I really have to go get that caramel macchiato that I was talking about earlier.......

P.S. Feel free to comment....I'm lonely here on this blog and wondering if y'all are even out there!

YAY! Family!........Oh, and let's just not talk about the game

So, this weekend was Wofford Family Weekend, which was a great weekend because I was able to see my family! Well, two of my aunts but whatever, that counts ok? Anyway, there were LOADS of things to do this weekend which all revolved around being with your family (such as: meetings with Profs, going to class with your family, "family parties", etc). All in all, it was a great thing. Especially since I was greatly missing Californian connections.

And then there was the game.

We lost....but let’s not dwell on that too much! We'll get back up and show them what's what! :D

And now, I will leave y'all with this quote since I have a LOT of work to catch up on....plus work to get to! (Wofford on Call...fill y'all in on what that is later!): "If your throat doesn't hurt, you don't have enough spirit"--Me

YAY! I Exist!

Yes, I now know that I exist! Astonishing, I know! But, you have to understand the story....

Ok, well, about 18 and a half years ago--WAIT, too far back...So, in Philosophy, we have just started discussing Descartes. And as most people know, he's famous for a quote: "Cogito, ergo sum" or for those who don't understand latin, "I think, therefore I am." Now, this may seem simple to some...but try to apply this quote....how can you prove that you really do exist? Here is the tricky part! The simple fact that you are doubting your existence is proof that you exist, because if you didn't exist 1. You wouldn't be ABLE to doubt. 2. You wouldn't be able to BE doubted. Therefore, I exist! YAY ME!

BUT, beyond that, there is the extremely random, fun, and thought-provoking weekend I just had!
Pimg0095
1. The Engaging Our World Conference was AMAZING! Ok, well I only had time to attend one thing (the Keynote) but whatever, it was STILL AMAZING! The speaker was Gillian Sorensen. Ms. Sorensen was the Assistant Secretary-General for External Relations under Secretary-General Kofi Annan and is currently the Senior Advisor at the United Nations Foundation. And she was AMAZING! She relied upon a critique of the current system the world operates under and challenged us, the future leaders of the world, to change this and make reform.

Pimg0009Pimg0008
2. Midnight Walmart Trips.....'nuff said.

3. Seeing "Across The Universe", and AMAZING movie that should be watched by anyone who loves movies or music!

4. Random times while doing homework in the Milliken Science Building (YAY for being open for 24 hours!).

5. Just plain fun randomness that occurred!

6. Our DOMINATION of Gardner-Webb this weekend (52-17) and the massive fun that followed!

7. Today I donated money to help end polio (yes, it is still around but has been eradicated in something like 93% of the world) and the donation drive is called "Pinkies for Polio" because you donate money and get to dye your pinkie purple which is what happens to those that receive the vaccination from Rotary International and UNICEF.

Well, I have homework (or should I call it dorm work...hmmmmmm) to get to so, until next time, I leave you with this quote: "When we can make a difference, we should try!"--Gillian Sorensen

Figuring Out How To Cope With Too Little Time

Well, here is the bulk of what I have planned for myself during the next few weeks!

-Class
-2 Philosophy Papers
-2 Chapters of Rubi (Mexican soap opera that we have to watch every week (except that this week we have 2 chapters to watch) but it is REALLY funny! That's where the ending quote came from last week :D)
-3 Football Games to paint up for and watch that I CANNOT wait for!
-1 Conference ("Engaging Our World is a conference that will bring together college students from all over the South East to engage in learning and discussion of social justice issues such as fair trade, global health, sustainability, diversity, and etc. The Keynote speaker will be Gillian Sorensen, senior adviser at the UN Foundation."--Wofford.edu/engagingOurWorld)
-Work at Wofford On Call which I TOTALLY love because it is so much fun but, it is STILL work!
-Religion speaker that sounds AMAZING!
-Pre-Law Society meeting & other various club's meetings!
-Diversity Matters series of discussions that I LOVE!
-Spanish test
-Every Baby Has A Story Bus Stop in Greenville that I'm volunteering at
-FAMILY WEEKEND where I get to see my Aunts Bev and Teri! YAY!
-Humanities paper that I should start on now to make sure I get a good grade
-March of Dimes dinner that I'm planning at volunteering at
-Biology Exam that I need to start studying for
-Discussion and viewing of "Crossing Arizona" which includes the director being here on campus
-Regular Homework

So, for the next 3 weeks I have A TON of stuff to do and I'm just wondering how I'm going to do it all.....I mean I have decent time management skills currently (ok maybe not decent as it may take me something like 4 hours to do a 2 hour spanish assignment at times); but, I do end up doing everything I have to! :D

Ok, well this is the life of an overachieving and procrastinating college student. YAY!

I have a TON to do and I really know that less than 3 hours of sleep/ night is going to be the norm (actually, it already is but whatever!). BUT, it IS going to be fun (even though it may not sound like it) lol! just take a look at my calendar! It looks like fun! it just has a LOT of stuff on it! But, who cares! Because I know that I will get through it...it will just take 3 weeks to get through it! :)

And so, I bid you adieu! And I will leave you with this quote: "CAVE CANEM" (in latin this means "Beware of Dog" something that all schools that get in the way of our football team need to know!) *knocks on wood* :D

Philosophizing With Your R.A.

So I found a new past time, Philosophizing! Yea, you heard me, philosophizing. No, this isn't a made up word, it actually means to speculate or theorize about fundamental or serious issues. And it is best done at 2:30 in the morning with your R.A. in the hallway or around Old Main at the 2:30. This is actually a really fun thing because it lets you really think about some interesting issues while procrastinating from your work (in the case of last night studying for a philosophy quiz and doing a humanities paper). But I did learn a LOT about my R.A. Hayes and my friend Cameron so I think that all in all, it was a beneficial experience. Even if I didn't end up studying for the quiz or starting my VERY important paper.....I ended up studying right before the quiz and the paper is due tomorrow so I have all day today to write it (though I DID write out my heading! YAY ME!!!). So pretty much, I'm corrupting the youth of America by saying this but hey, its MY blog so I can say whatever I want! :P And Hayes DID say that I was being too much of an overachiever by attempting to write my essay two days before it was due (technically it was one but whatever!)

But, I have to go because Spanish starts in like 8 minutes.... so I be you adieu! And I will leave y'all with this: "Cayate! *ella slapar Rubi*"

The DOMINATION of the Citadel

Well, our Wofford College football team has done it again! We have DOMINATED yet another foe! And, this was when the papers believed that we would lose…but I think that the score of “28-7” shows that the “shorthaired dogs” have a lot going for them and are a force to be reckoned! :D

And did I mention the cheering peoples?

Pimg0020
Pimg0026
Pimg0007_3

Well, there are the cheerleaders who are AMAZING! I mean, these girls do like a billion push-ups per game. Every time that we score, they do push ups to equal our score. This means that for this past game (Citadel), they did 7+14+28=49 pushups! Yea, our cheerleaders can beat up your cheerleaders! Plus, on top of this they cheer for the guys that make them do the ridiculous amounts of pushups (like when we DOMINATED APP State!). And, these girls have to put up with the next people!

Pimg0019

Sany0136_2

The Dog Pack! These guys RULE! If I do say so myself…. since I am part of them (The “!”). Basically we are the cheering section for the students, we start a BUNCH of cheers, we are loud, and we get the point across that you don’t mess with the Terriers! But, we have more than the people that paint up. There are the guys who paint up for the games (Like me, I have done all but two game thus far!). Then, there are the girls who have to put up with us because they paint us up and sit (usually) right behind us intermixed within the rest of the dog pack. The rest of the dog pack consists of people who cheer but don’t paint up or specifically paint. And these people RULE as well. They may not paint up but they ARE there with us supporting the team and they are LOUD! But, let us not forget our boys!

Pimg0042

Pimg0042_2

These guys are the reason the rest of us are here! They are AMAZING! Every time that someone counts us out, our boys pick it up and prove that the Terriers are more than meets the eye! And no time showed this more than when we OWNED APP State like none other (In case you missed it, it was an AMAZING 42-31!) And just this weekend when the papers said that we would lose to the Citadel and we OWNED them with a 28-7! Yea, our guys know how to play and how to do it well. This year is the year of the dog…. the shorthaired dog!

And now I say good-bye with the words of the great President Bernie Dunlap, “Bark little dog, bark!”

October 01, 2007

Ugh!

Well...there is no getting around it. I HATE doing home/dorm-work! It is repulsive. It makes my skin crawl....But it just keeps coming.

UGH!

And I just realized...writing this and telling y'all this is just procrastinating and holding off the inevitable.

It. The horrid. The gruesome. The Bio exam. The Telemundiales. The paper. The torturous readings (literally, they're about torture!)

UGH!

I guess I have to do it one way or another....I just really don't want to do it....but at least I only have one test to take this week.....unless something comes up....Oh, I hope not!

Let my lament end....for I have work to do....one way or another....I guess.
