Hockey? {silence} Jonas Brothers? {screaming prepubescent girls}

Dsc00595 So the NHL Rockin' Skate this weekend was amazingly fun. It was at Philip's Arena in Atlanta, and I had the time of my life (sans the whole missing Sidney Crosby thing).

I was able to watch both the Eastern All-Stars and the Western All-Stars practice, saw Usher, Alyssa Milano, and Taylor Kitsch, and saw the Jonas Brothers perform. All in all, a super fab day. The only bad parts were that we had to one, wake up at an unholy hour to be there by 8:30 am, and two, there were a lot of screaming middle school girls who were only there to feed their infatuation with the Jonas Brothers.

Dsc00585 Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan. But still. You know it's bad whenever Usher asked who was a hockey fan and you could practically hear the crickets. He then asked who liked the Jonas Brothers, and I think one (or possibly both) of my eardrums ruptured. [Picture is of the Eastern All-Stars]

Dsc00605 Alex was really tired and sick of the screaming girls; but I tried to be optimistic throughout the whole ordeal. :)

Time to go hit up Burwell. Oh joy of joys.

Later dudes!

It's Just A Jump To The Left.....

Quick word of advice/order....

GO SEE ROCKY HORROR!

Wofford's very own Pulp Theater is putting on a student production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show for Interim. I saw it tonight. It was AHmazing!!!

There's shows on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, and also midnight shows with audience participa....tion (Don't get mad; I know it's not the real quote; just work with me here). This link here has all the details on how to get tickets and times and such.

Go quickly, before it's too late!!!!

Tragedy Strikes

Sidney Crosby has an ankle injury which will keep him on injury reserve for at least a month.

Which means that he is no longer playing in the All-Star game. Which means I will no longer be able to see him there. Which also means that this is going to severely hurt the Penguins as they move closer to the playoffs.

Dang it.

Hockey, Hooky, or Hicky?

So I have defied all odds. I have accomplished the impossible. I was listening to the radio on my way back from my internship and heard that the station was giving away tickets to the NHL All-Star concert. So I called, somehow became the 9th caller, played a game ("Hockey, Hooky, or Hickey?"), and won 2 tickets.

So let me explain the game......I was asked 3 questions and I had to answer which one of the three (Hockey, Hooky, or Hicky) it was.

Question 1-Hopefully you'll play this tomorrow and sleep in (Hooky).
Question 2-The radio host and his friend will play this tomorrow (Hockey).
Question 3-You practiced giving this to your pillow (*rolls eyes* Hickey).

So after I've effectively made a fool of myself on the radio (which luckily, only one of my friends heard it), I realize how amazing this is going to be. Let me catch you all up-the NHL All-Star game is in Atlanta on the 26th. I looked into getting tickets, but it's virtually impossible due to both the lack of available tickets and lack of available money on my part. I won tickets to the concert the morning of the game, which means I won't be watching the actual game (tear), BUT I will get to see the morning practice. So I'll be near Sidney Crosby (love of my life)! AND the concert is The Jonas Brothers and Usher!!! I'm so excited! (For those of you who don't know, The Jonas Brothers are this band that's on Disney Channel and such. Yes, I'm a nerd. But my little sisters are insanely jealous.)

N563851160_560449_534 Me and my friend Alex (the one receiving the love in this picture) will be making the slight trek over to Atlanta next weekend. So we'll be getting up at an unholy hour in order to go to this AHmazing experience. But somehow, I think I'll survive. ;)

In other news, my internship is going amazingly. In just a week, I've been able to sit in on divorce proceedings in family court, meetings with clients, spent a day in the State House in Columbia with a lobbyist and consequently heard an insurance lobbyist and a health care lobbyist go at each other's throats, listened to a supercedious argument at the Court of Appeals, and sat in on a day's worth of depositions for a lawsuit. AND IT'S SO FREAKING COOL! This Interim is only further affirming the fact that I want to go to law school and that I want to be a lawyer sooo badly! It's also opening my eyes to all the different aspects of law that I could go into, which is also a great learning experience.

SC Democratic Primary---T minus 6 days and counting.......

Alrighty, dudes. Peace out!

In Case Of Inclement Weather

So all the Wofford students just got an email saying that the school typically doesn't close in the case of inclement weather. Also, word around Nelson Mullins (that's the law office I'm working at) is that there's a storm a'coming.

Confused (it's a beautiful day out), I went onto weather.com and looked up the forecast. Apparently there's a winter weather advisory for the Spartanburg/Greenville area in effect from 7pm tonight until 7 pm tomorrow night. We need to expect "an inch of quick snow followed by ice and a wintery mix".

Wait....WHAT!?!?!

I'm sorry.....last time I checked, an inch of snow and a little bit of ice is not cause for alarm. Yes, it means that you should slow down a bit more, turn the radio down, and focus more closely on the road, but seriously?? I understand that most of the cities and towns down here don't have plow trucks (which are unnecessary for a measly inch of snow) and that they more than likely don't have the reserves of salt and sand that road crews up north do, but I know for a fact that they have at least a few trucks to sand the overpasses and such (I've seen them).

Back home, schools don't even consider delays until there's a good 4-6 inches forecasted, or if a bad ice storm is coming. Cancellations are even more rare. And for workplaces to be opening late? The only time that would happen is when hell froze over (which it pretty much did once; we got 4 feet of snow overnight and were snowed in for a day or two).

I even heard some woman in the elevator talking about how she went to the store before work to make sure she had enough dog food to last a while. Could you hear me rolling my eyes on that one? Thought so.

At any rate, tomorrow morning I'll just be driving to Greenville, minding my own business. After all, Paulette, my gorgeous '96 Lumina, is a tough girl. Somehow I think she (and I) will make it.

Full_shot Picture: Me and my bff from back home, Alex. We went to one of those photo booths when we were at the mall together. I think that the last picture, especially, rather indicative of the type of relationship we have :)

It's Not Cold!

So it's January. And anywhere from 50-75 degrees on a given day. In my book, that's freaking warm. To all these southerners....."it's cold, y'all!"

Dsc00565 Tomas came and gave me a Hairspray movie poster. Which made my life. So now my wall in my room has ridiculous amounts of pictures AND I'm starting to run out of room. Haha. There's kinda a common theme: Zac Efron (lol).

I am so so so excited for tomorrow! I start my internship for Interim and I couldn't be more amped for it. I'm working for a lawyer in Greenville and he's one of the lawyers we heard during oral argument the other day when we went to Columbia and sat in at the South Carolina Supreme Court. Yay! This couldn't be more perfect for me. I'll give updates on that when I can.

Also, the South Carolina Democratic Primary is closing in....(January 26th). Which means that it's getting down to the wire for the College Democrats, which is difficult during Interim because people are always coming and going. Oh well. Tomas and I'll do what we can! ;)

*Sigh* Well, time to clean my room. Later dudes!

this poor child has no life....

N1467600050_30041299_3521This is what Tomas does during Interim. Did I mention that the class we're taking requires no outside work????

Yeah. He doesn't really have much of a life. He finds ways to torture himself, I swear.

The Interim Life

So I'm back at Wofford. Yay! I mean, I so totally lurrrrved being home, but it's also super fab to be back and see all my besties and such. Plus, my Interim class, ummm, TOTALLY rocks my socks. I'm in the Pre-Law Interim class with good ol Tomas (which I'm pretty sure I mentioned before), and we've been listening to speakers (lawyers and judges) about various aspects of law. Woot. On Tuesday we're venturing to Columbia to sit in on oral argument of the SC Supreme Court, and then afterwards we get to go into the chambers and meet the justices!! AHHHH! I'm super stoked. We're also visiting USC's law school that afternoon, and on Friday(?) we're going to Charleston to visit the law school there. Plus, this whole week will be peppered with speakers. I'm still really excited, however, to find out where the heck I'm interning! Regardless, I'm expecting a super fabbbbb week as far as class is concerned.

Hmmm....nothing too insane in the way of non-academics. I mean, I'm gonna see Tomas manana, as I haven't seen the lucky dog who's been in DC for the Power 100 Summit (see his blog for more details). Hrmmm....I'm expecting quality fun times with him tomorrow. Ha. That kid.......oh man.

It's also PRIMARY SEASON!!! Which makes me a very happy politically minded person, hah. On Saturday night I was hanging out with Alex and Rebecca and they came into my room, saw that I had on the New Hampshire debates, and promptly called me a nerd. Oh well. I accept my fate wholeheartedly. :)

Lalala.....I need to go to bed. Like, asap. I have class at ten, and it's almost two am......my body is tired but my mind hasn't gotten the memo yet. Hmm....cuddling in bed and playing Sudoku on my phone sounds like a capital idea.

Peace!

Aloha from the frozen north

Ha, so I've for sure been the slackest of the bloggers.....oops. In my defense, I've been doing a lot of nothing, but 99.724% of that time spent doing nothing was in the company of family and friends that I rarely get to see (the whole living nine hours away thing kinda does that).

Let's see.....I'm obsessed with movies. So in the time I was home, I saw I Am Legend, once in IMAX and once just regular, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Juno (also twice), Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Ps. I Love You, and I think that's it??? I went to the mall 5 times and marathon shopped pretty much during all of those visits, and spent less then like, $100 bucks. Now that's quality shopping right there. ;)

N1467600050_30040294_6195 This is me and my brothers and sisters on Christmas eve. I got my hair cut super short over break, which is like a huge step for me; my last rendezvous with bangs ended badly! I was really glad to get to see my family again, especially my brother Tyler (the one on the far right). He's only a year younger then me, and we're really close. And I hadn't seen him since I left for school in September. We had Smith family Christmas at our house, and it was great to see my aunts and uncles and cousins and grandparents as well (plus, my mom is such a fabbity fab cook).

So I think going back to Wofford's gonna be kinda weird, just because it's been like, 3 weeks since I've been there. And this time, it's gonna be for a long haul before I get to see my family; they're coming down for Easter because we don't have any days off of school :( . But at the same time, I'm excited to get back and see my friends (I miss them oh so much).

Let's see.....the Penguins played in the NHL's Winter Classic today, and won 2-1 in an overtime shootout, with everyone's fave captain Sidney Crosby making the decisive goal. Yay. It's supposed to snow like,  6 inches tomorrow during the day, so I'm hoping and praying that doesn't affect my flights back tomorrow. Oh well. There's not too much I can do about it. :(

Alright, I think I need to do a good old double check and make sure I have pretty much everything packed para manana. Later gators!
