ONE isn't just a number.......

OneSo Wofford is pretty much supporting the best thing in the world: the ONE campaign to get rid of global poverty and disease. I think it was like, a month and a half ago or so, that Bernie (President Dunlap) signed a proclamation of sorts that declared Wofford to be a "ONE campus". We have a ONE chapter and it's pretty much the most amazing thing ever. Naturally, I'm a part of it (so is Tomas, shocker). But our big thing is trying to raise awareness of the global issues here on campus (and also the local area). We're trying to get a lot of people to sign up with ONE and become members, and there's this really cool contest called the ONE Campus Challenge. Currently, Wofford is ranked 14th (!) in the nation in points. So you can totally help Wofford get more (yay!) by going to this site and signing up on behalf of Wofford. Or, just go to the ONE website and learn more about this awesome campaign.

The big event coming up is December 1st, which is World AIDS day. Because there's like, seven thousand things going on campus that day, we're observing it on December 2nd with a candle light vigil at 6:00 in front of Old Main (if any of you guys are going to be in the area then, PLEASE PLEASE come show support). But, until then, we're passing out red ribbon pins to wear in support of AIDS research and in memory of those who have lost their fight against AIDS (see picture of me modeling below).

So, until then, stay classy all you cool kids!

Ready to talk hockey, but back at the Woff (which is lacking in fans of frozen sports)

THE PENGUINS WON!!!!!!!

Dsc00302

A FANTABULOUS 5-0 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers. I'm soooo happy! Also, the Mellon Arena has this thing where you can text messages to be put on the scoreboard for free. I managed to get this gem up there:

Dsc00286

(wofford college loves the pens! sorry, quality's not too good from some extreme zoomage on my part)

Dsc00319 Aside from that, it was so much fun to see my friends from back home. We're all such nerds; its quite insane (Alex, Staci, and Jacquelyn are my besties that I went to the game with). I also went and saw Enchanted (with another bestie of mine, Rachel, and Alex), which was crazy good! I mean, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, AND Idina Menzel thrown into a DISNEY MOVIE? Come on! Of course it's gonna be good!

I flew back today; flight was super easy. Security at Pittsburgh Intl. wasn't NEARLY as insane as I had thought. Only delay was for about 15 mins (at Greenville/Spartanburg) cause there was some traffic backed up on the tarmac. But other than that.....it was golden!

OH! The Terriers won yesterday!!! AHHHHHHH! So that means we're one step closer to the championship! Yay!

Some videos for your consideration:

Penguins scoring:

And then a fight almost broke out - Colby Armstrong (Pens #20) got shoved to the ground by Niclas Havelid (Atl #28), and then Ryan Malone (Pens #12) got a nice shot in before the refs stepped in.

Pumpkin pie + sweet potatoes with mini marshmellows + a whole lot of Smiths = Thanksgiving.

So it's snowing outside right now. Been snowing all day (and I'd know - I woke up uber early to go brave the heinous crowds in search of fabulous deals con mi madre).

I love the snow!! It's been a while since I've seen it. It's been snowing nicely here - all light and airy and fluffy, not heavy and wet like it usually does. *Sigh*. Not going to see much back at Wofford. Oh well. I think I'll survive.  ;)

Dsc00260 Thanksgiving dinner with my family. There's not TOO many of us, but enough to make my grandparent's house seem, well.......cozy for sure. My littlest sister (Olivia) insisted on dressing up like an Indian (last year she was a pilgrim). We celebrate our big dinner with the family on the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving (makes life simpler for all parties involved).

Saturday I'm going to the Penguins game with three of my really good friends from high school. I'm soooo excited. They're playing Atlanta. It should be a good game, but the Pens REALLY need to win. We have really good seats and the tickets are free, so I'm on cloud nine, possibly even cloud ten or eleven....actually cloud seventeen (it's my favorite prime number haha).

And a video for your viewing pleasure......my little sister Olivia (she's 7) singing "Skip To My Loo" after Thanksgiving dinner. Hence the outfit.

I have a life now......and no idea what to do with it

So "connect: a memory play" is over. officially over and done with. Which is a very sad thing. I now have all this time on my hands. And no idea what the heck to do with it.

So throwing myself into a whole bunch of other things/activities sounds like a good idea. Like I said before, really involved in College Democrats, and now that I'm a fully initiated member of Delta Delta Delta, I'm going to start being uber involved in that as well. Our slate (our version of elections) was just posted, and I got Music Chair! Which is really exciting. Also getting involved in helping with Women's History Month later on next semester.

Hmmmm.....it's really late (or early in the morning). Wide awake. But I'm going to at least attempt to go and sleep. Alrighty. I'm flying home on Tuesday afternoon (super super stoked about that). But I'll make sure to get some pics from that visit. Ok. Later gators (and I'm not going to steal Tomas's idea and end with a quote, that was a one time thing, so please don't throw lemons at me)!

BannerWeb hates me.

And I hate BannerWeb.

Which is the thing that we use to register for classes with. I had this amazingly fabulous schedule worked out for next semester. BUT, because my last name starts with an "S", I was in THE LAST group of WoCo students to register.

So the Philosophy class and the Physics classes I wanted???

Full before I even got the chance to register.

The Statistics class I wanted????

Also full.

The English class I wanted????

By the time I got to that (which was MAYBE 3 minutes), it was full. So I'm now in an English class that I didn't even consider taking, but it was the only one that had a spot left AND fit into the schedule I already had.

I had to add "Public Speaking" just so that I could have the minimum amount of credits.

Yeah.

Needless to say.......I'm not very happy right now.

Plus side.....I'm now the Secretary of College Democrats.

Cdalogo That's fun. I can dig it. ;)

To steal an idea from Tomas and end with a quote - "When life hands you lemons, chuck them right back at the jerk who gave them to you" -

Halloween: For Small Children and College Kids

N1401570292_30160196_7920 So after a full run-through on Halloween for the play, me and Katy and Madison (as well as a few other loverly theater-types) went to the Halloween party at Hub-Bub. Hub-Bub's this crazy cool art gallery(ish) place in Spartanburg. I've never seen sooo many crazy outfits. There was a pope, a nurse and Dr. McSteamy, and a couple who went as Road and Roadkill (they won the costume contest). I was a hick, which I (sadly) had all the components of my costume - overalls and a John Deere trucker hat, Katy was a go-go dancer, and Madison was a pilot (LOVED her aviators). After we left Hub-Bub, we drove around trying to find N1401570292_30160203_7762 food, ended up at Wendys, parked there and ate our food, Katy got out of the car and did the choreography from "A Chorus Line", started to get cat-called by random guys in the drive-through, we all got sketched out and left, ended up doing Soulja Boy in the parking lot at Wofford. At like, 12:30 at night.

Thursday night was when everyone got totally decked out at the row. I had a toga, but my paranoia about it coming undone surpassed how awesome it was. So I just put on a dress and went and saw the craziness that that night was......let's just say that "smashing pumpkins" is no longer a band in my mind. There were lots of ladybugs and butterflys, the Fantanas, someone dressed up as Elmer Fudd, another as a lion (which he just basically wrapped himself up in a really fuzzy blanket, I kept hugging him just as an excuse to feel how soft it was), a couple ghostbusters, and a baby or two.

Friday was a MARATHON rehearsal. Our call was at 2 pm and we didn't get done until a little bit before ten. BUT Tori and Katy and I went to see "Elizabeth: The Golden Age", which was absolutely AMAZING. There was only like two other people in the theater but it was still fabulous.

Dsc00213 Saturday was one of the BEST days of my life!!! I woke up bright and early and went and made sure Tomas's lazy butt was out of bed because we were going to see BARACK OBAMA!!! He was speaking at Converse College, which is quite literally two minutes down the road. After that, I was so totally blown AWAY. My heart was seriously racing. It only made me that much more fired up for College Democrats. I know Tomas has already mentioned this in his blog, but allow me to reiterate. There's quite a large group of Republicans here on campus, but we Democrats need to have our own representation. So we're actually having a meeting (tomorrow) to try and get a following behind the re-instating of the Wofford chapter.

Alrighty. I need to finish a paper for humanities. I've spent enough time procrastinating (not that I had a lot of time to do that). Peace!
