Back home....

So. I'm back home and really happy to see my family and everyone I haven't seen in a while. Good news!!! The Pens won this afternoon (a bone crushing 6-0 victory) and are now the Eastern Conference Champions AND will be playing in the STANLEY CUP!!!!!!

L3184967 This is right after the game when he was presented the Prince of Wales trophy (aka the trophy you get when you win the Eastern Conference).

I got home last night after a long day of driving; it wasn't too bad but 9 hours in a car sans cruise control can be a little annoying.

It's great to be home with my family, but it's really bizarre not being at school and with all the people I've been with the past year. I know I probably won't see any of them until the summer's over (that's the casualty of living so far away). My roommate next year, Kate, has a lake house that's only a few hours away, so I might go see her for a weekend. But other than that....probably nobody.

I'm planning on working a lot this summer (I babysit and waitress) and making bank so that I can save money to spend a semester abroad fall of junior year. Yay!!

Grades get posted sometime this week......eek. Gotta keep up the GPA for scholarships so hopefully everything works out well for me......

Well, I may or may not write another few entries (I don't know how long this subscription or whatever lasts) but if anything crazy cool happens I'll be sure to let you fun people know. I hope that by writing this blog I let some people know about my experience at Wofford and that it helped you make some decisions about college and stuff. Or if you at least had something to laugh at (aka me) I can deal with that too. :)

And remember - friend request me, email me if ya want (smithmr@wofford.edu), and if you see me next year (I'm on O-Staff and an RPM - hit me up on 2nd floor Carlisle) say "hi" - I swear, I'm only slightly psychotic (on a good day) but I love meeting people and think I'm a pretty chill person.....but if you don't get to know me you can't find that out.

SOOO - stay classy you cool kids!

Just stopping in

Just giving you guys a real quick update (b/c that's all the time I really have):

So, I went to Hilton Head this weekend with my Alex and Kate to Alex's house so that she could get her mom's car to move out with at the end of the week. It was nice, it was relaxing, I read physics and government and statistics......ok, so not crazy relaxing, but still nice to get off campus for a few days.

I have my physics exam tomorrow morning, government on Tuesday morning, statistics on wednesday afternoon, and english on Friday afternoon. My dad and brother are helping me to move out Friday night, we're crashing in a hotel that night, and getting up early on Saturday and making the trek.

Ok. I promise to put up pictures and such later, but I just wanted to update you guys real fast (if you don't know, exam week's INSANE around these parts). I have lots of studying to do, as well as packing up all my stuff at some point in the shockingly near future.

Later dudes!!!

I'm a numbers person....

So here's some numbers for you guys:

3 - papers I have to write for the rest of the semester
4 - finals I have to take next week
16 - the last day in May which I will be on Wofford's campus
3.12 - the amount of Terrier bucks I have left
7:10 - the amount of time (minutes:seconds) into overtime when Marion Hossa scored, clinching the series for the Penguins and sending them into the Eastern Conference finals against the Philadelphia Flyers
541.23 - the distance (in miles) between Wofford and my house
55 - days it will be between the last time I saw my family (Easter weekend) and the next time I see them (when I go home)
12 - days until I'm home

too many to count - people and things I'm going to miss over this summer
too many to count - people and things I'm going to be ecstatic to see again over this summer

So, it doesn't take John Nash to figure out that the end of the year is bittersweet (if you don't know who John Nash is, google him/watch "A Beautiful Mind" asap; it's a great movie!).

Hockey Update

SidcrosbyvfSo the Penguins won AGAIN last night (5-3) against the Rangers, bringing the series to 3-0 for the Penguins. They're one of only 11 teams to win their first 7 games in the playoffs; if we win tomorrow night, then we are undefeated in the playoffs AND go to the Eastern Conference championship against either the Montreal Canadiens or the Philadelphia Flyers (their series right now is 2-1 with the Flyers in the lead, surprisingly).

Oh, and the picture is Sidney Crosby, the 20-year old center, Pittsburgh team captain, all-around phenom, and my future husband (he just doesn't know it yet). In a word: amazing.

Alright, done freaking out over his fabulousness. Going to go write a paper. Later dudes!

As promised.....

More pictures!

Dsc00753
This one was at the country club (after we'd been there for 3 minutes; you can't go anywhere with a bunch of sorority girls and not take lots of pictures).

Dsc00736

This was before we went to the function; I was ready for the picture, Jennifer wasn't, but it's still a really funny picture anyways!

Alrighty, it's time to eat. Later dudes!

Spring Formal!!!!

So this weekend was Tri Delta's spring formal. A picture's worth a thousand words, so here's a couple to make a lengthy blog:

Dsc00735
Me and my girlies!

Me and my date, Patrick.

My fabulous Tri-Delta family - me, Weatherly (grand-big), Kaley (big), and Mary Catherine (great-grand-big).

I'll put more pictures up later; I have class in 7 minutes! OH, and the Penguins are 2-0 in the series so far!! YAY!!

April 24, 2008

I DON'T want to throw my computer against the wall and hit my head repeatedly with something hard!!!

Banner Web didn't make me want to inflict harm on anything/anyone/myself!!

True, it's probably because I wasn't in the last group in the ENTIRE FREAKING SCHOOL to register for classes, but it still feels very nice. :)

So, this is how my fall semester's going to look:

MWF - 9:30-10:20 - Western Public Religious Thought 1900-1965
MWF - 10:30 - 11:20 - Western Civ (From 1815)
MWF - 11:30- 12:20 - Wofford Singers (I actually haven't signed up for this yet; I need to go to the Registrar's office to get an override since this puts me at 19 hours)
W - 3:00-6:00 - Middle East Politics

TR - 9:30-10:50 - Western Civ (To 1815)
TR - 1:00 - 2:20 - Reasoning and Critical Thinking (Philosophy requirement)
TR - 2:30 - 3:50 - The American Presidency

So yes; I'm going to be a government major for sure (I'm declaring first thing in the fall). I'm also going to be a History double major (or, if it doesn't work out, a minor) so I have to take 101 AND 102 (should be easy; I took AP Euro in high school but didn't get credit for it). I also have credit for 201 and 202 already from AP US History.

The only gen. ed. stuff I still need to take is another lab science and a 200-level English, plus 2 more semesters of Singers and some elective stuff, but I plan on taking care of the first two spring semester, Singers whenever, and the electives when I'm abroad (1st semester junior year's what I'm aiming for if I can get the $ and such in time!).

Ok, I'm going back to sleep. I don't have anything to do until 10:30. So I should sleep.

Why doesn't sleep come when you need it to?

It's 2:30. AM. And because I'm a smartie/my phone hates me, I went to take a nap at like 3 pm...and woke up four hours later because my phone decided to spontaneously turn off whilst still plugged into my charger.

Go figure. It decided to inform me that the charge was complete and I guess it decided to take a nap. Demon phone.

Img00003 On the bright side - I got a 95 on my government term paper!! Woot! I'm really happy; I spent a lot of time on it, so it always feels good to know that your hard work has paid off. :)

Class registration is tomorrow morning for my half of the alphabet; hopefully I'll get the classes I want. ALSO, 2nd round of the NHL playoffs start tomorrow; Penguins play Friday night against the NY Rangers. EPSN is predicting Penguins take it in 5 or 6 games; hopefully it'll happen that way (they predicted 5 games for last round, we got it in 4, but doing better than predicted is always good)!

Tomorrow's Earth Day, there's lots of fun things planned to go on. I have to do a "World Cafe" for my one class - I certainly hope that people actually come. *Sigh*

Eh, I'll guess try to actually sleep. Who knows if it'll happen, but it's always good to give it an honest attempt. Night dudes!

Time is messing with me

Ahhh, so I'm sorry I haven't written in a while. These past few days have gone by in a blur, but yet it seems like it's been eons since I've last written (and the fact that today is only Wednesday is blowing my mind).

I've been writing a term paper diligently for the past like, week or so. It's a ten page extravaganza (and hopefully masterpiece) analyzing a book entitled America's Inadvertent Empire. Yes, it's for my government class (Foundations of World Politics). I thoroughly enjoy that class, the book wasn't bad to read (it was actually interesting). but the whole writing a big huge paper on it sort of takes some of the fun out of it.

Hmmm....that's kind of it, I've been sort of a hermit the past few days, rarely venturing out except for food, class, and chapter (it's sad, really). Relay for Life got rained out (sadness) and I'm no longer going to listen to the anti-Christ speak (aka Anne Coulter) because I have far too many things to do and far too little gas to get there and back and still be able to drive to the grocery store/Walmart/Target for the next few weeks. On the plus side - I washed my car the other day. It was like, the first time since BEFORE Thanksgiving break. Yes, it's been months since I last washed Paulette. She was getting green (really, I parked next to the grass and then maintenance came and cut it and she was green from the clippings).

Sunday night was Night and Day for accepted/confirmed students of the class of 2012. Since I'm an RPM/O-Staff, I got to go help out with the mixers and such that they put on for all the newbies. I think I scared a lot of them - I'm a little high intensity when it comes to things like that. I don't know why, they just draw out most of the crazy in me. So if I scared any of you - I sincerely apologize. I only hope that by making fun of me behind my back/to my face (which, whatever if you do, I'm just there to make you feel slightly less awkward about yourself) you were able to bond with your future classmates. :)

Ok. It's 3:00, which means NAPTIME (in college, you regress back to an earlier, simpler time in your life, where your main concerns are sleep and food).

Oh yeah - game 4 of the Penguins-Senators series is tonight!!! If we win, we've succeeded in winning the series in 4 games (which is very rare) and defeating the team that knocked us out in the first round last year. Alright - time to sleep.

April 11, 2008

Sweet life.

So I'm staying up until 1:30 am. And then going over to do Relay for Life for the 2:00-3:00 am slots, and then the 6:00-7:00 slots. It's going to be amazing.

Speaking of amazing......Night and Day is this Sunday night!! I'm hosting a person, so whoever you are, get excited.......b/c it's going to be amazing, lol. Also amazing-ness - all the pollen that is making my allergies kick up!! Ok, so I lied about that last part, but still. I try to be positive.

As we speak, the Pens have a 2-0 lead on the Ottawa Senators in the 2nd game of the first round of the NHL Playoffs. We won 4-0 on Wednesday, and if we shut out again, I think I'm going to run down the halls of Greene screaming like a crazy person. Which wouldn't be that big of a deal, because most of the people in my hall are gone this weekend anyways (a couple of the frats have their formals this weekend, and they are weekend-long off campus extravaganzas).

I have a term paper due next week, paper revisions also due, a scholarship banquet-thing that I'm helping out with, recruitment practice, work, PLUS I'm going over to Furman on Wednesday night to see Anne Coulter in all her liberal-hating, soul-sucking glory. So, all that but the last one aside, it should be a fun week.

There's also a Leadership and Citizenship Symposium here the next week and a half or so. I have to attend a few of the sessions for one of my classes. But it shouldn't be that bad, some of them look pretty interesting.

Ok. Well, I need to finish reading a book so I can write a paper on it. And if you come to Night and Day and see me, say hi! It's nice to know people other than my mother and Tomas's mom and aunts read our blogs (lol, I love you all regardless).
