Indian Hospitality is the Best Hospitality

So everyone has heard of southern hospitality as the most welcoming hospitality but I think that people should learn that Indian hospitality is by far the most amazing and welcoming hospitality I have ever known. I learned a story from my host mother that goes something like this: Krishna was traveling and came to a man’s house, now all this man had was a little bit of rice to eat for his whole family. This man offered Krishna all of his rice so this man and his kids had nothing to eat for a few days. Krishna was so amazed with this man’s hospitality that he suddenly made food appear in all of the jars in the man’s house and they were no longer hungry… My host mother told me that this story is part of the reason that Indian families are so welcoming. She told me that most Indian Hindus believe that they must treat their host like Gods so then Gods will bless their home. My dad got me in touch with a man he barely knows but has worked with who lives in Delhi. This man, named Sushil, immediately invited my group and me over to his house. I said yes but had no idea what I was getting into and was kind of nervous. This man paid and arranged for a bus to pick us up at the Hostel and drove 30 minutes to his house. This man was waiting outside of his house for us and when he walked us in his front door, his wife was waiting with a candle and incense and gave is all bracelets and bindis (decorative jewels for your forehead). After that his wonderful wife let all of the girls try on her sarees and she made us amazing snacks of all kinds of fried vegetables. And no there is more!! They also got a professional henna artist to come to their house and give us all henna! After getting into a deep talk about religion with this amazing couple they told me about their guru so I asked if there was a way I could ever meet their guru or a guru some time while I am in Deli. All Sushil said was “one second” and he talked to his wife in Hindi and left the room. About ten minutes later he came back and said “ok”, “ok what?” I responded… “ we go see guru” he said….. “what now”…. “yes” he said “short drive”… So he took four of us to meet his Guru and through his translating we learned how we should live our life and always “be good to everyone”. After that amazing talk with our Guru Sushil took us back to his house and him his wife fed us an amazing dinner. Now you have to understand they did this for a group of college students they no nothing about and probably will never see again and get nothing in return. It was an amazing night and their hospitality is something I will never forget. I also don’t want you to think that this was just a random nice guy. No, it is very common to be treated like a God when you come into someone’s house. Its impossible to go to someone’s home and them not make you tea or bring out snacks. The loving hospitality of the India is just one thing that has made me fall in love with this culture
