A Train for Indiana Jones

After saying a sad goodbye to my amazing host family, the IHP crew boarded the train to Ahmedabad. Now Ahmedabad is in the state of Gujarat which is in west India. Also on case you were wondering, that is a 14 hour train ride from Delhi. We were told that we were in the first class trains. I knew that it wouldn’t be anything fancy but I expected a group of use to be an a compartment where there is a door that closes, like on the Hogwarts Express…. boy was I wrong. So I will do my best to to give you a mental image. So there is kind of this isle through the train that is barely wide enough for your shoulders, let alone my suitcase. On one side of the isle is a group of four bunk beds and a curtain that separates all four from the isle. On the other side of this tiny isle is bunk beads grouped in twos shoved into the wall. I was a the top bunk on the side of the wall. And with these two they each had their own personal curtain. I slept maybe one hour out of all 14 hours on the train. One reason was because every time someone walked by where I slept they moved my little curtain which freaked me out and kept me awake. I also don’t think I slept because I didn’t feel very safe, I think because I really didn’t have anything protecting me from the rest of the train… Like a door. I kept feeling like Indiana Jones was run through the train at any minute, he would have loved the train. Also the bathroom on the train… I feel like I needed to see a therapist after using the bathroom it was so traumatic. So you walk into the bathroom which is the size of an airplane bathroom. But there is a hole in the middle which takes up most of the room and makes it smell like dead bodies. Now the trick is to make it into the hole while the train is swerving and also not land in the hole yourself. I can proudly say I came out triumphant but I didn’t know if I would if I had a round two so I stopped drinking water. Even though the train was insane I was so blessed to be on a train in India!!! I can’t believe I am here right now and able to experience these crazy and wonderful things!

Haha I don’t know why you thought indiana jones would run through the hallway, the only Indiana jones on the train was you. I’m glad you got to expierance something like that safely though I can only imagine what the rest of the train was like.
