Last night me and two girls on IHP were sitting and having dinner with our host father who is wonderful and he was answering all of our questions about India. When we asked about the Indian government he told us that it is completely corrupt and when I asked him how it is corrupt he answered, ” corrupt in every way”. Today in class we had a lecture and the man told us about the Indian government and it is exactly what my host father said ” corrupt in every way”. Our amazing lecturer named Dunu Roy told us that in Delhi, if the government wants to get rid of poor people in an area they stop sending water there and shut down the government owned hospitals. Government also evicts poor people from the middle of the city a lot because that land is getting worth more and the government wants to build a mall or something of that sort. So the government evicted these poor people and sends them outside the city where there are no hospitals and no water. That is why there are slums. Dunu Roy also told us that there is enough water in Delhi for each person to have 275 liters a day. But the government does not give water out equally. For example, the neighborhood I am staying in which is huge gets 300 liters a day for everyone and a nearby neighborhood of generals gets 500 liters a day but the slums outside Delhi gets 30 liters a day. The government of India gives to the rich and takes from the poor. Crazy! Even though America is not perfect be happy with the life you have because you are lucky.
