Done with day one

It’s funny how no matter where you go or what you do you always compare it to past experiences. Taking the bus into New York from the airport, everywhere I turned I was like “hey that’s  like Chicago” “Chicago doesn’t have that”. All the other students on this program are from so many different places not only in the country but in the world and it will be so cool how we compare and contrast what we have already gone through with the amazing experiences we will have together. Today in class we learned that Traveling creates knowledge and knowledge creates power. I’m hoping that within my travels I can show people that Americans really are good people. And I can show people back home that people living millions of miles away from you really aren’t that different. I am ecstatic about this trip and can’t believe I just finished my first day.

"Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends."
