Basically awesome....
Halloween 3 times this week! Gotta love Wofford for that one.
Tuesday was trick-or-treating in Carlisle with Aleah.....SUPER FUN! Plus, Tuesday night was the season premiere of Nip/Tuck which both Aleah & I love! YAY! So Tuesday was a crazy fun roomie bonding night....I think the whole day Tuesday was pretty good roomie bonding...LOVED IT!
Wednesday was actually Halloween which was a fun day....much candy eating was involved. There was a Halloween carnival for all the kids in the community. Most of the oncampus groups (sororities, fraternities, Mulitcultural Affairs, etc.) sponsored games and stuff. It was awesome. I hula-hooped and beasted John. It was fun. Burwell was served down at the soccer field with free funnel cake and fried oreos for us students. Since I live for funnel cake, I was pretty excited! So all the Halloween Carnival/dinner/soccer game/funnel cake fun inspired me to go get my costume and be a sport. And it was a blast. Pic's of me & Syd....she's a lion & I'm a hick....fun stuff!
Thursday was Halloween @ Wofford since the Row doesn't open on Wednesdays, so all the costumes on campus came out for at least a brief appearance. That picture is probably my favorite of the 800 I took that night....Kappa Sigma Pledge Class all at their costumed best....I LOVE those guys!
Thursday morning was a much more solemn affair; but, it was probably more important than everything else that went on this week.
First was the bell. Wofford rings the bell 3 times for each student here. They ring it for you when you arrive, when you graduate, and then in your honor after your death. All Saints' Day was the day for the ringing of the bell for those of us who have passed on. I was on my way to the reading of names, but didn't make it. But, the ringing hit me somehow still. I think it's important to be mentioned not just because of Wofford tradition but because of how close this hits. Once upon a time, the people honored by those tolls of the bell walked the same sidewalks I walk now & lived in the same rooms that my classmates and I call home. Years from now, some other freshman girl will be walking along on a sunny All Saints' Day and hear the bell toll for me for the final time. Really made me think, y'know?
After the bell tolling, I went to the chapel for a candlelight vigil being held for the students who died in the beach house fire earlier this week. That one hit close to home as well.....several of the students who died were graduates of J.L Mann HS in Greenville. J.L. Mann is about 15 or 20 mins straight up the high way from my high school. We played them in lacrosse and I had friends who went there. I have friends at both Clemson and USC. I am a really community oriented person. I look for my connections to those around me. Those kids lived up the road from me somehow. None of them were far away. So I was sad for them on a lot of levels.....knowing that I could've seen them at a restaurant or a lacrosse game, knowing that they probably lived about 20 mins away from me...we shopped at the same malls, went to the same downtown....makes the world a bit smaller and the tragedy that much bigger, y'know? So, I went to the vigil amongst a few who knew them and a few who didn't. Pray for those families. I can't even begin to imagine the grief filling the lives of those who knew and loved these students at this point in time.
Friday was a fairly cool day as well. Officially dropped calculus. Cleaned my room. My sister is spending the weekend with me & we just finished Blades of Glory a little while ago. If you haven't seen it, you should. And of course, my mommy brought me all my boots from home (since it's suddenly become wickedly cold) & more food! YAY!!!! Okay, I'm an hour into Saturday and since I'll be up before noon for once, I think I'm gonna head to bed. Can't wait to spend all day Saturday with my sissy! YAY!!!! Homecoming football against GA Southern tomorrow, too! YAY!!!!!! (again.) I'm outtie!
