I guess all good things must come to an end. This is my last blog as a Wofford Freshman, well I guess now I am a sophomore. This year has been one of the best of my life. Wofford has challenged me and has helped me grow as a person. I learned a lot about myself this year. College in general is a big change, giving you new independence. The Wofford World is a wonderful place to grow in this new independence. I look forward to the next three years I have here in my new home, but now a wrap-up of the end of the year.
The end of a school year is always hectic, just think of the month of May for the last 12 years of your life, nothing changes May will always be busy! A lot of events happened to finish off the year. We had to tell the senior Theta’s goodbye, celebrated one last weekend of parties at the row, and studied for some very difficult finals. Just so you know finals in May are harder than finals in December because you are packing up and moving out while you try to study.
The last weekend at the row was a blast, with bands both nights and lots of swing dancing (which is my all time favorite thing about the row!) Pike had a Redneck Party on Saturday night which Stefanie and I dressed up for, because it was out last weekend. Although it was sad that we would no longer be the freshman, I look forward to being a knowledgeable sophomore in the fall. I am excited because I am a part of Orientation Staff and will be an RPM (Resident Peer Mentor), so I will get to participate in helping the new freshman acclimate to college and Wofford!
Also the last weekend before finals was Tri-Delta’s Triple Play Philanthropy event for St. Jude’s. It was an amazing event. Theta had a team and although we are not the most talented softball players, we had a blast and we got matching visors. What is more fun than that! It was a busy and exhausting weekend, but totally worth it! Another event this weekend was College Republican’s annual 2nd Amendment Day. I learned how to shoot a shotgun. It was very empowering. It was a neat opportunity and now I may take up hunting, who knows. College provides you with experiences you might never get again!
My birthday was the weekend before finals began and although everyone needed to study we did take time to have a study break in Green lobby. Sarah's birthday is the day before, so we had a joint celebration. It was a fun way to celebrate with my friends. My best friends from elementary school came up to celebrate. Everyone made my special day fabulous even if it was a bad time of year!
Well I survived through finals and then I to attend my first Wofford graduation. Wofford graduations are filled with timeless traditions that I love. It was such a precious, touching ceremony held on the front steps of Old Main. Getting to be a part of graduation just made me look forward to my turn to walk across that stage, not that I want time to move any faster than it already does. Graduation is bittersweet. There is excitement for embarking on a new adventure, but at the same time sadness that the Wofford chapter of your life is ending. I am so proud and glad that I am a part of this Wofford family.
In closing, I want to thank everyone who helped me this year. I want to thank my parents for the opportunity they have given me by sending me to such a phenomenal school. I couldn’t be here without them. For all the parents out there, the experience students receive at Wofford College is priceless and is worth every penny we pay to go here. This year has been outstanding. I hope the readers have enjoyed reading my blog as much as I have had writing about my freshman year. Also I apologize for the many typos over the year; I am working on not making so many errors. If there are any incoming freshmen reading this APPLY TO BE A BLOGGER, it is an amazing job! Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Courtney Green
