Students

FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE: Five first-year students are sharing their perspectives on life at Wofford. Follow them through the ups-and-downs of their first year in college. And if you like, please send them your questions or comments.

STUDY ABROAD: Wofford students studying abroad in Mexico, France, Bolivia, Denmark, Chile, and the Dominican Republic  will post their observations and impressions of their host culture while reflecting upon their own integration into their new community.

PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLAR: Vanessa Lauber is traveling through the developing world in 2007-2008 as Wofford’s Presidential International Scholar. Her blog provides updates on her travel experiences and research.

SI POLITICS: James Koutroulias ('09), a member of the Success Initiative, looks at the platforms for Presidential Candidates.  His blog also has videos of other Wofford students' reactions and thoughts on each of these issues. 

Faculty and Staff

DR. TRACY REVELS: Dr. Revels, associate professor of history, is an active member of "The Survivors of the Gloria Scott," a Sherlock Holmes society in Greenville, SC. When she is not reading Sherlock Holmes, Revels is a gifted historian. Her book, Grander in Her Daughters, was recognized with the Rembert Patrick Award as the best scholarly book on Florida history published in 2005.

DR. CYNTHIA FOWLER: Dr. Fowler, assistant professor of sociology, writes about her ongoing research in ecological anthropology. This blog archives her experiences doing ethnographic fieldwork (with funding from a Wofford Summer Research Grant) on the island of Sumba in Indonesia during the summer of 2007. Students who are taking Ecological Anthropology (SOC 311) and Introduction to Cultural Anthropology (SOC 205) comment regularly on the blog posts and, by doing this, learn in-depth about the Kodi ethnic group and about the practice of Ethnography.

KYLE JAMES:  Kyle (’03) is the webmaster at Wofford.  His professional blog, .eduGuru, looks at Internet Marketing and Web Development in Higher Education specifically related to Wofford College’s website.  On this blog he shares some of the data discoveries, marketing efforts, and design elements that go into keeping Wofford’s web presence fresh, interactive, and exciting.

THE LITTLEJOHN COLLECTION: Luke Meagher is the Littlejohn Project Archivist responsible for the processing, study and preservation of the Littlejohn Collection on permanent loan to Wofford College. He will be posting to the Littlejohn Collection blog to share some of the collection's highlights.

FROM THE ARCHIVES: Dr. Phillip Stone, archivist of the college and of the Methodist Church in South Carolina, shares stories, documents, photographs, and artifacts about college, church, and South Carolina history.

Alumni

JOHN-CHARLES BRADBURY:  J.C. ('96) is an economist and associate professor at Kennesaw State University. In his book (The Baseball Economist) and blog (Sabernomics), John-Charles applies the economic way of thinking to baseball to issues on and off the field. His is married to Rachael Bowman Bradbury ('95), and they reside in Marietta, GA with their two daughters.

SAM HARRELSON:  Sam is a 2000 graduate of Wofford College and a firm believer in the power of the liberal arts.  Having graduated Wofford with a religion major, Sam attended Yale University for graduate school where he received a Masters of Religion and the Arts with an emphasis in ancient art.  In the years since, Sam has gone on to teach 10th grade English Literature, 8th grade Physical Science and carve out a name for himself in the online marketing world as an expert in the field of social media and networks.  Sam now lives in Asheville, NC with his wife Anna Quinn Harrelson ('00), a newborn daughter and their three dogs.

REV. JOSEPH JAMES:  Rev. James ’85 is a United Methodist pastor serving India Hook Church in Rock Hill, SC.  At his blog, scracramentaldude.blogspot.com, he writes about spirituality, family, work and, on occasion, his passion for Wofford football. Joseph and his wife, Kathy, have three sons and a Boston Terrier.

DR. PATRICK ZIMMERMAN:    After graduation from Wofford, Dr. Patrick Zimmerman '63 earned wide recognition as the founder of the Southern School in Chicago. He was interviewed by oral historian Studs Terkel for the book, Working. In 1984, Dr. Zimmerman received the Distinguished Service Award from the Wofford National Alumni Association.
    Dr. Zimmerman has gone on to an impressive academic career, earning his Psy.D. from The Illinois School of Professional Psychology. He is also a graduate of The Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis. For many years, he served as a director of the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School at the University of Chicago, as well as a lecturer in The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Chicago. He is the author or co-author of numerous books and articles related to psychiatric care and group therapy.

ALABAMA TERRIERS: Did you know that there are over 280 Wofford alumni who live in Alabama? Former Student Body President Anthony Leigh ‘99, deputy state treasurer, enjoys visiting with college friends in his region whenever he can. When he became a member of the Alumni Executive Council recently, he set out to improve the connections between “Alabama Terriers.” Even if you don’t exactly fit this description, you will enjoy corresponding on this blog and catching up with the latest news.
