Last weekend, Wofford had an amazing concert on campus, sponsored by ONE. ONE is a poverty-fighting organization that does a lot of good stuff, you should check 'em out here.

ONE had this competition for which school could have the most active campus, dubbed the "Campus Challenge," and all in all it seems they were quite successful in raising activism across the nation. You can read about it here. Well, Wofford's ONE organized a whole set of events to promote awareness and fight the good fight, and it put us in the Top 10 schools in the nation. Other schools in the top ten included The University of Michigan, Florida, and Baylor. Well, we ended up winning because of our active campus (I participated for sure). Well, we won! And we received a free concert by one of my favorite bands, Vampire Weekend.

Big props to Tomas Moreno (he still blogs on the second-year one somewhere on this site) and the rest of the ONE officers for all their hard work.

The best part? A few of us got to meet them! Heck yes, son. I actually met Travis from Gym Class Heroes earlier last week, and I have really never met famous people before, so I'm a little starstruck. Before you ask, yes, I am a 14 year-old fangirl. Here's a picture of all of us:

 

As you can see, Joey, Caitlyn, Mack, Mesha and I represented hard. But yeah, the Vampire Weekend guys are cool dudes. Chris (drummer, plaid shirt in the middle) was actually especially cool because we told him how we loved to clap along to the drum fills he did, and he was calling them out to us before he did them during the concert. It ruled.

We managed to get front row of the concert, too, which was amazing. I was busy dancing instead of fufilling my blogger photography duties, but I did manage to capture this picture of Ezra, Chris, and somebody's shiny head:

It was amazing. Thank you so much, ONE. Yall really did us a solid.

It's been awhile, but I brought pictures. Call it even.

Also, that Saturday, I really hurt my ankle and I have pictures, but I will spare you the club foot. Let's just say swollen and purple doesn't begin to describe it.

Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)

So this is going to be a weak post, but the power is out in all the freshman dorms, and it seems like a whole army of power company trucks has taken over while trying to fix it. So I couldn't find my camera. But here's a picture from when I played a show with my good friend Zach over Spring Break:

Can't Stay the Same

Okay, so I'm a day late. I'm a college student. 2+2=....

Let's dive right into the pictures. Over Interim, we took a trip to Charleston to go ghost hunting. There were some lights you were supposed to see on a back road after going by a church... it didn't really work out. I got a glow-in-the-dark Ghostbusters shirt from Wal-Mart for the occasion and everything! Anyways,

^This is at this spot on the waterfront in Charleston that if you stand in the middle of, it makes this weird echo sound. I'm sure it's physics, but I prefer to blame ghosts. Joey agrees. I had only been to Charleston once before and this was right by where I stayed, so I was glad to be back in familiar territory.

I Love College

I'm back. Midterms hit over the past two weeks, and so I've been diligently studying for them, no lie. I'm actually going for a superb GPA this term. Speaking of which, Sigma Nu had the highest pledge class GPA, something I'm happy to have contributed to. Good work, boys.

So this past week was Greek Week! There were cook-offs, convocations, awards, and games. There was a Jimmy Buffett theme this year, which is cool I suppose. I'm not what you would call a "fan." Sorry if you read this Jimmy, I'm sure you're a cool dude.

Anyways, we had so much fun that I ended up with a sprained ankle! I can't really head to the library to plug in my camera, I will be stealing some other people's photos for this entry. Thanks in advance. I'll upload the my pictures tomorrow.

High Life Scenery

Hey yall I'm back. So term is in full swing, as I pretty much have quizzes in both my History and Physics classes every Thursday. Wowie zowie. But you didn't come for that, you came for...

Pictures!!!

^One of the other yankees here, the lovely Ms. Lindsey Huston, accompanied me back for the 9 hour or so drive back to Ohio during Thanksgiving. She is from Cinci, so luckily for her (just kidding!) it was right on my way. I won't lie, the drive back is long. But it is amazing to see the scenery, the mountains, all that jazz. But yeah, we managed to conversate (slang!) for like the whole trip, so she is def the best trip partner ever.

Ramen and Easy Mac is the only thing a college student will ever need. Oh, and Vitamin Water. Thanks to my roommate Hunter for buying that stuff!

^ So the other day, we had some exceptional weather, and what do you do when it's nice outside? Why, you go get Krispy Kreme of course! It was Caitlyn's birthday, and so we figured that means free doughnuts, right? Right.

^I guess Mack fell asleep or something.

Now That You're Home

Okay, so Interim is done. Classes have officially begun! Wooooo! I would have some pictures, but pretty much the only thing I found picture-worthy (dodgeball!) is supposedly on love lockdown by another blogger. I'm not going to tell you who he is though, to be nice. Oh wait-

But yeah, what are my impressions of interim? Well, it's a welcome release to come back after holiday break and be able to only worry about one class throughout the week, you get a lot of free time. I hopefully will be traveling to France next year, but we'll keep fingers crossed on that.

While I'm thinking about it, I have been wanting to go ghost-hunting for a long time, and if anybody who happens to read this might know any old ghost stories about Wofford, contact me somehow. Tell me those wouldn't be awesome to blog about. Ok, well, don't, let me assume they would be awesome to blog about.

I'm not gonna lie, I am muy excited for this term. I have French 102 with Dr. Wiseman, English 102 with Dr. Chalmers, Western Civ with Dr. Rodrick (who also taught my movie class woo woo!), Physics 104 with Dr. Zides, and Team Sports. That's right, team sports. Basketball, dodgeball, and soccer. Eat your heart out, Fitness classes. But yeah, after having experienced each of these classes twice so far, I won't lie, I'm pretty happy with the setup. I am a little envious of the people who don't have to consistently wake up at 8:30 or 9:30 in the morning, but hey, that's life. 

I'm sure this is boring to read, so I'm gonna place my camera in my front backpack pocket so that it's always with me. If anybody wants to get on here, just do something for me to take a picture of. Come on, I know you want to be famous.

Also, I read Mesha's blog the other day about people feeling nervous that the bloggers from last year or this year or whatever were too "liberal" for them and didn't know if they should come here. I just want to get out here and say that I think there is a decent mix of conservative and liberal here (I mean, South Carolina is traditionally more conservative, keep that in mind), and I don't think you have any reason to worry about that. Plus, the only real politics that have happened on campus were surrounding Obama's presidency and election night, so I doubt you're going to feel like an outcast about your political beliefs. Besides, honestly, my best friends here are pretty much libertarians and conservatives, so really, don't worry about that. I would recommend meeting people and basing your decisions on that, not by their political slant or stuff like that. Trust me, no matter what you are, you'll find your place here.

Okay, heavy-handedness aside, that's it for this week. No music, either, I'm currently in a state of flux. I will say though, get the new album by Two Tongues, it's solid. Peace.

Love Lockdown

Hey, this is going be a shorter update because I have gained a great idea for the next blog but I forgot to take my camera today. So yes, Interim is wrapping up. I have watched so many movies, but I think my favorites so far were Citizen Kane (masterpiece!), Strangers on a Train, and Annie Hall. I guess it would help to know what a Wofford student is reading/listening to/watching, no? Well, here you go:

I am reading: Cell by Stephen King, Watchmen by Alan Moore, and the Indie Band Survival Guide. 

I am listening to: The Rolling Stones' 40 Licks, Daylight by Matt and Kim (which is also my current favorite song), and, to be quite honest, Folie à Deux by Fall Out Boy. Yes, I lose a little indie cred for that last one, but I like that album. 

I am watching- Movies: Psycho, Walk Hard, and The Host, which is this crazy I think South Korean monster movie. Like Cloverfield, only awesome-er if that's possible.

TV: Weeds, Doctor Who, and the new season of Scrubs, which is honestly really good except that it needs more of J.D.'s zany imagination sequences. 

I am gonna carry my camera more places so I can get more pictures.

Pork and Beans

Hola. Interim has started, and I've been privy to the classics of American cinema: His Girl Friday, Casablanca, and Citizen Kane. Why you ask? Why, my "How to Watch a Movie" course! I get to spend almost every weekday watching a movie and discussing the various cinematic aspects of it...it is amazing. I love it. Three hours a day and I'm done! Thinking, enjoyment, and a short time span? Why don't I do this more often?

My computer is being wonky, so I will put some pictures in the next post. Until then, stay fly.
